My name is Trevor Allen and I'm a Halifax Wedding Photographer (who also does destination weddings) and a number of years ago, someone told me about an emerging trend on the internet of websites selling your pictures, photos, videos and images and giving commissions back to you. These 'Royalty-Free' sites may sell my photos for as little as $1.00 but with hundreds of thousands of buyers (designers, marketers, etc) flocking to these websites, I have made a lot of money selling my pictures online.

Over the last two years I've made more than $2500 online and so I keep telling my friends to upload their pictures from their digital cameras and start making money on the web. I decided to put together this website for them so that they can find the best websites to sell their pictures. There are many 'Royalty Free" and they can be found on my Links page but the ones below are the best ones that I would suggest spending most of your time populating with your images - because they have made me the most money due to their high volume of visitors.

Now, to some people, nearly $1500 a year may not seem like a lot of money to some but I used this money to buy a Canon 5D MKIII and a 100mm f2.8 macro lens and recently a Canon 70-200mm f2.8 IS. However, there are many people who make a living on these sites. They spend the morning shooting and the afternoon editing and uploading. They have 10,000 pictures online (compared to my 100-200) and are making $200-$500 or more a day - no kidding.

With a little work upfront, selling pictures online and making money is quite easy. Once you sign up, just uplaod photos and as soon as they are approved, they start selling right away. Keep in mind there are rules. You can't send inimages of corporate logos and pictures of peoples' faces without a model release. These sites will send you cheques or pop money right into your PayPal or Moneybookers account. Of the sites below, I am making the most money from iStock, Dreamstime and Shutterstock but the others are not too far behind. So above is a detailed comparison of the best and most lucrative sites; iStock, Shutterstock, Fotolia, Dreamstime & Big Stock Photo. Sign up now and good luck.

* Royalty-Free websites may change some details that may not be immediatly reflected here
The last change was Shutterstock raising their payout per download.

** Payouts on nearly all sites can climb up to $50 per download depending on the type of download (licensing rights)

*** When I say "Easy" I mean the physical process of uploading and keywording the file is easy compared to other websites.        It is still important to review the sites photo requirements and ensure your photos are acceptable images.
